Smart Glasses: Technology and applications

Imagine a world in which everything you see could be updated, enhanced, clarified, foreseen with meta data. There is something like an “extra dimension” to this world, providing us, the user, with loads of extra and additional information. Such a world is possible with Augmented Reality and smart glasses are a key feature, a necessary tool in this reality that is augmented.

On the 31st of January, the HYPEREGIO Innovation-to-Market consortium partners organized a workshop, a round table session on the usage of such Smart Glasses. The goal was to provide an opportunity for application developers and technology providers to come together and discuss possible innovation and cooperation.

The day started with an interesting general insight on the technology and usage of Smart Glasses by mr. Große Böckmann of Oculavis, followed by a presentation of Picavi on applications in Logistics and Flanders Make on applications in Smart Manufacturing. The general presentations set the scene for the pitching companies that came next. Every company or organization had about 10 minutes to talk about competences, questions and opportunities.

A coffee break separated the presentation part from the networking part of the workshop. First there were some round table discussions. The organizers provided three tables: one on Healthcare applications, one on Logistic applications and a third one on Manufacturing. Companies and organizations with a common interest grouped around one of the tables and it came to interesting discussions. Discussions that would be continued during the drinks… .

At the end of the event most of the participating companies had interesting talks and some follow-up work to do. Some of them even had promising leads. It is now up to the I2M BDS managers to channel these leads and opportunities towards projects that can be supported by some HYPEREGIO vouchers!
